| Michael Jackson Dies Suddenly Aged 50 Michael Jackson was about to attempt one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Then his life was cut shockingly — and so far, mysteriously — short. The 50-year-old musical superstar died Thursday, just as he was preparing for what would be a series of 50 concerts starting July 13 at London's famed 02 arena. Jackson had been spending hours and hours toiling with a team of dancers for a performance he and his fans hoped would restore his tarnished legacy to its proper place in pop. Jackson died at UCLA Medical Center after being stricken at his rented home in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood of Holmby Hills. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him at his home for nearly three-quarters of an hour, then rushed him to the hospital, where doctors continued to work on him. "It is believed he suffered cardiac arrest in his home. However, the cause of his death is unknown until results of the autopsy are known," his brother Jermaine said. Jackson's death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage. As word of his death spread, MTV switched its programming to play videos from Jackson's heyday. Radio stations began playing marathons of his hits. Hundreds of people gathered outside the hospital. In New York's Times Square, a low groan went up in the crowd when a screen flashed that Jackson had died, and people began relaying the news to friends by cell phone. RIP Michael, you will be missed my many, many people. | |
| Charlies Angel Farrah Fawcett Dies Aged 62 Farrah Fawcett, a 1970s sex symbol and TV star of Charlie's Angels, spent almost three years fighting cancer but sadly died Thursday morning at St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica. Fawcett was with longtime partner Ryan O'Neal who returned to her side when she became ill. He is the father of her 24-year-old son, Redmond and they were planning to marry in the next few days after being together for over 20 years. O'Neal said he asked Fawcett to marry him and she agreed. They would wed "as soon as she can say yes," he said, but it never happened. Fawcett became a sensation in 1976 as one-third of the crime-fighting trio in Charlie's Angels. A poster of her in a clingy, red swimsuit sold in the millions and her full, layered hairstyle became all the rage, with girls and women across America mimicking the look. In 1995, at age 50, Fawcett stirred controversy posing partly nude for Playboy magazine. The following year, she starred in a Playboy video, All of Me, in which she was equally unclothed while she sculpted and painted. Farrah Fawcett was a beautiful, intelligent, talented and incredibly brave woman and while the world mourns the passing of Michael Jackson in the same day, it may be all to easy to overlook this sad loss to the entertainment world. RIP Farrah. You will be missed. | |
| Davina Defends Big Brother Davina McCall has said she is getting fed up with being bombarded with messages from people telling her how much they hate Big Brother. "If you are, for some unknown reason, not enjoying BB, please don't tell me. It's really harshing my mellow." she recently said. McCall also revealed that certain social situations make her uncomfortable when people get "snobby" about her job. "I love doing Big Brother." she said, "As a presenter, the longevity of the show really appeals to me. For me it's pure entertainment. It is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I'm really in the firing line because whenever I go out, if I go out to a posh dinner party, I just get abuse from start to finish about presenting Big Brother. They say, 'Surely you should be presenting something more highbrow or interesting?' And if say, 'I really find it interesting, I'm sorry', people are so snobby about it. It's just an entertainment programme." Meanwhile, contestants Freddie Fisher and Angel McKenzie were nominated for eviction by their fellow housemates live on air. Fisher, who changed his name by deed poll to Halfwit to become a housemate, took his third nomination well. "Again?" he said, "Gosh. I thought I might get a week off." But the prospect of facing the public vote was too much for Russian McKenzie, who got five nominations, and she had to be comforted by Fisher. | |
| LiLo Gets Her Girl & Gets Nicked In The Same Week??? It seems young Ms Lohan just cannot stay out of the news this week as she has spent the last couple of months chasing her ex-girlfriend Sam Ronson around the globe. Amid rumours of restraining orders and changing of locks, it was starting to get a bit embarrassing for party girl LiLo. But her persistence appears to have paid off. After spending the best part of a week pursuing Sam from one club to the next across London, it seems Linds has finally got her girl. The tempestuous twosome reunited at the check-in gate at Heathrow yesterday, showing every sign that they're back on. And the plot thickened when LiLo was spotted flashing a dazzler on her ring finger. Then, to make her life so much easier, Lindsay Lohan is now under investigation by London police in connection with the theft of jewellery from an Elle photoshoot. LiLo posed in the jewellery for a spread in fashion glossy Elle. According to sources Lohan kept asking about the gems before allegedly leaving with them. An insider said, “She kept asking if she could have them. We all thought she was joking.” When the jewellers first realised the £30,000 worth of jewellery was missing they raised the alarm with the editors of Elle. After spending two weeks trying to contact Lohan, who has now left the country, Elle has handed the matter over to police. Lohan has previously been caught in a fracas over stolen goods with Louis Vuitton, who now refuse to deal with her at all. She was once also accused of stealing a Russian student's inherited fur coat. | |
| Rodrigo & Charlie's Snog For Booze Charlie and Rodrigo have kissed in the swimming pool. Following the day's singing sunflower task, the housemates decided to unwind in the garden. Charlie was swimming around Rodrigo when he asked the Brazilian student for some of his alcohol in exchange for a kiss. Rodrigo agreed and the two kissed while the other housemates excitedly shrieked and clapped. Later on in the evening, Sree also got into the pool as Charlie went to jokingly grab and kiss him too. Sree laughed, revealing that he washed his lips in the water soon after. Charlie earlier told Cairon that he does not find Rodrigo attractive and was craving some "sexy boys" in the house. | |
| Sree Crashes And Burns In The BB House Unrequited love was in the air in the Big Brother house after Sree confessed he had lost his heart to a fellow contestant. But the object of the 25-year-old virgin's affections, retail manager Noirin, made it clear the feeling was not mutual and insisted he did not really love her. In a heart-to-heart talk, Sree said: "I don't know how to flirt with you." He added: "You're too good looking for me. Secondly, your inner beauty is platinum. And your laugh makes the sun shine." He continued: "What I'm going to say, you keep it to yourself: I'm in love with you." Earlier, 25-year-old Dubliner Noirin had complained to housemates that the lovestruck business student would not leave her alone. "He's like my shadow. I can't move without him being there," she said. Poor Sree.... | |
| First Housemate Quits BB10 As Saffia Walks Out Saffia Corden has become the first official housemate to QUIT the Big Brother house. It was not immediately clear why the 27-year-old single mother decided it was time to leave the show. But in dramatic scenes, the beauty consultant from Nottingham entered the Diary Room and informed Big Brother that she was off. Her reasons for leaving will be shown in Friday's programme during the live eviction show. Saffia's walk-out will not affect the eviction battle between Halfwit or Sophia. One of the contestants, Beinazir Lasharie, has already been voted off this year's show. The 28-year-old study support assistant, from London, was booted out after failing to earn housemate status. | |
| Grant Has Run In With Paparazzi... Not known for being a fan of the press, Hugh Grant has suffered another clash with the paparazzi. The actor was leaving one of New York's most infamous celebrity haunts when he appeared shocked that photographers were stationed outside. Unhappy at having his picture taken, the Four Weddings and a Funeral star kicked off outside the Waverly Inn - literally. The 48-year-old was filmed telling the group to "back off" as his mood grew darker. He then lashed out at one, seemingly landing a foot firmly in his groin. The cameraman then said: "That wasn't cool. What the ** is your problem? I was trying to be a nice guy. I was trying to help you find a cab." This isn't Grant's first run-in with the media. A few years ago he was accused of throwing baked beans at a photographer in London. | |
| Tennant To Star In Dr Who The Movie??? David Tennant is in talks to take his Time Lord character to the big screen in a film adaptation of iconic TV series Doctor Who. The actor announced in October he would be stepping down from the role after three years as the time traveller, passing the baton to newcomer Matt Smith. Tennant is said to be considering starring in subsequent sequels if the big screen project proves successful. | |
