Tom DiCillo
Tom DiCillo Posted: 12th Apr

Award winning American filmmaker Tom DiCillo initially made a name for himself in the film industry as director Jim Jarmusch's cinematographer on such revered early eighties films as “Permanent Vacation” (1980) and “Stranger Than Paradise” (1984). In 1991 Tom would make his directorial debut with “Johnny Suede”, starring Brad Pitt in his first leading role. Over the last two decades DiCillo has released some of the finest independent films, such as “Living in Oblivion” (1995); “Box of Moonlight” (1996); “The Real Blonde” (1997); “Double Whammy”(2001) and “Delirious” (2006). DiCillo's latest film however is a radical departure for him in terms of style and genre; it is a documentary on the iconic rock band The Doors titled “When You're Strange” which will be screened at the Belfast Film Festival on Tuesday. 20th and Monday 26th April 2010. Wayne Byrne spoke to Tom DiCillo about what brought him to choosing this film as his next project; working with the surviving members of The Doors and the influence of fame and celebrity on modern society; he also got some advice from him for young filmmakers out there trying to break into the film industry.
