X-Files Essentials: It’s time to believe…

Sci-fi phenomenon the X-Files is back to captivate and enthrall fans old and new, with the release of X-Files Essentials on DVD on the 14th July 2008. Released by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, the DVD offers an exclusive insider’s pass to the multi-award-winning show just in time for its second trip to the big screen. Hand-picked by X-Files creator Chris Carter, the eight episodes on the DVD include special introductions by Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz, revealing why they were chosen and how they relate to the eagerly-anticipated feature film.

Offering a thrilling insight into the paranormal exploits of FBI agents Mulder and Scully the DVD provides a brilliant introduction for those new to the cult series, as well as a nostalgic reminder for dedicated fans. Covering a variety of unexplained cases that centre on alien abductions, psychic phenomenon and inhuman life forms, the episodes set the stage for the forthcoming sequel.

Billed as the greatest cult television show of all time, the X-Files dominated the small screen throughout the 1990’s quickly becoming a worldwide hit. The show focused on FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as they investigated the existence of alien races, uncovering government conspiracies and unexplained phenomena along the way. With Mulder in the role of ‘believer’ and Scully as ‘skeptic’ the duo developed an ambiguous friendship and an onscreen chemistry that kept viewers guessing throughout the nine series.

With a new X-Files movie due for release this summer this DVD is the perfect opportunity for fans to get reacquainted with the show before the film hits the silver screen.

Episodes

Disc 1: Pilot, Beyond the Sea, The Host, Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose

Disc 2: Memento Mori, Post-Modern Prometheus, Bad Blood, Milagro

Bonus features: 2008 theatrical trailer; Wondercon talent panel session

The Cottage On DVD 14 July

Jennifer Ellison, Andy Serkis and Reece Shearsmith serve up the grossest of gore in the hell-for-leather, spectacularly gruesome, British horror-comedy The Cottage. A bloody blend of Shaun of the Dead and Severance, The Cottage is released to buy and rent on DVD on 14 July 2008 from Pathé Distribution Ltd.
Written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams (London to Brighton), The Cottage tells the story of a bungled kidnapping turned backwoods massacre. In the dead of night, a car arrives at a secluded country cottage. Bickering brothers David (Serkis; Lord of the Rings Trilogy; King Kong) and Peter (Shearsmith; The League of Gentlemen) kidnap Tracey (Jennifer Ellison) in a desperate moneymaking scheme with the help of her black sheep step-brother Andrew (Steven O’Donnell), while hiding out in a remote cottage from her ganglord father.
However, all does not go to plan as Tracey turns the tables on her captors and escapes with Peter as a hostage. David and Andrew follow them into the woods but they soon discover something far more terrifying is lurking in the darkness. All hell breaks loose in a grotesquely comic battle for survival when all four stumble across a psychopathic farmer who is hell-bent on reaping a harvest of human heads. As maximum carnage ensues who will survive and what will be left of them?

Painful, gory and very, very funny, The Cottage on DVD is packed with blood-thirsty special features including an audio commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes and a ‘making of’ featurette. Guaranteed to leave you in stitches and its cast chopped into tiny pieces, don’t miss The Cottage on DVD, a fabulously deranged and relentlessly hilarious treat for horror fans everywhere this summer!

The X-Files: I Want To Believe - In Cinemas 1st August

In grand X-Files manner, the as yet untitled film's storyline is being kept under wraps. This much can be revealed: It is a stand-alone story in the tradition of some of the show's most acclaimed and beloved episodes, and takes the complicated relationship between Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) in unexpected directions. Mulder continues his unshakable quest for the truth, and Scully, the passionate, ferociously intelligent physician, remains inextricably tied to Mulder's pursuits.

The title for the new X-Files movie is out there and has been officially announced as The X-Files: I Want To Believe.

The film sees David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprise their roles of Mulder and Scully and they are joined on screen by Billy Connolly, Amanda Peet along with hip hop artist Xzibit.

The X-Files: I Want To Believe is directed by the series creator Chris Carter from a script written by him and long term collaborator Frank Spotnitz.

Whilst details of the story are being kept under wraps in order to prevent plot spoilers, Chris Carter has said that he wanted to make a film that would appeal to everyone "There's a whole new audience I want to introduce to THE X-FILES, this is a stand-alone movie and it is not a mythology, conspiracy movie."

The film will be released in the UK on 1st August 2008.

When Conti is arrested for possession of counterfeit documents, his goons are left to their own devices and end up waging a brutal crime-spree upon the city. Get ready to be blown away by this intensely powerful thriller! From the driller-killer torture sequences to the scenes of eardrum bursting gunplay that make the shootout from Heat look tame in comparison, Paris Lockdown is a truly visceral cinematic experience guaranteed to leave viewers gaping in shocked awe.

It's Eddie Murphy in Eddie Murphy in "Meet Dave" and while his crew of miniature aliens are trying to save their planet, they encounter a new problem, as their ship (Eddie Murphy) becomes smitten with an Earth woman (Elizabeth Banks).

The Happening: Trailer And Poster

From director M. Night Shyamalan comes a lightning-paced, heart-pounding paranoid thriller about a family on the run from an inexplicable and unstoppable event that threatens not only humankind . . . but the most basic human instinct of them all: survival.

It begins with no clear warning. It seems to come out of nowhere. In a matter of minutes, episodes of strange, chilling deaths that defy reason and boggle the mind in their shocking destructiveness, erupt in major American cities. What is causing this sudden, total breakdown of human behavior? Is it some kind of new terrorist attack, an experiment gone wrong, a diabolical toxic weapon, an out-of-control virus? Is it being transmitted by air, by water . . . how?

For Philadelphia high school science teacher Elliot Moore (MARK WAHLBERG) what matters most is finding a way to escape the mysterious and deadly phenomenon. Though he and his wife Alma (ZOOEY DESCHANEL) are in the midst of a marital crisis, they hit the road, first by train, then by car, with Elliot’s math teacher friend Julian (JOHN LEGUIZAMO) and his 8 year-old daughter Jess (ASHLYN SANCHEZ), heading for the Pennsylvania farmlands where they hope they’ll be out of reach of the grisly, ever-growing attacks. Yet it soon becomes clear that no one – and nowhere – is safe. This terrifying, invisible killer cannot be outrun. It is only when Elliot begins to discover the true nature of what is lurking out there – and just what has unleashed this force that threatens the future of humanity -- that he discovers a sliver of hope that his fragile family might be able to escape what is happening.
